Rene Gonzalez was born in El Campo, Texas. After graduating from El Campo High School, he attended the Wharton County Junior College. After earning his Associate’s Degree in 1987, he decided to attend the University of Texas at Houston. There, he served as an officer in the Hispanic Business Student Association. He also became involved in the University Christian Fellowship and participated in numerous student activities. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Houston.

Rene Gonzalez joined the Texas State University School of Music in October of 2018. He will be teaching percussion in the Latin Music Studies Program.
